Interested in a 7 or 8 year direct program?
Our physician advisors can put you on the right track.

early planning for optimal success

Image-37 copyThe direct medical school (sometimes referred to as 7 year direct programs, 8 year direct programs, BS/MD or BA/MD or combined undergraduate/medical school) programs are extremely competitive. A typical program receives 100 applications for every 2-3 spot and some are even more competitive than that. It is important to start planning your direct medical application early in high school so that you can stand out when it comes time to apply. At MedSchoolCoach, we have introduced a unique pre-application guidance program, named our Game Plan Package. Through this program, you will have access to one of our BS/MD advisors in 9th, 10th or 11th grade, prior to your application. They will take you through what is needed for an eventual successful application.

a few of our most common services

High School Class Planning

Books

Should I take honors classes? What about Advanced Placement courses? Is AP Biology better or AP Chemistry? There are many questions to be answered about class planning, each with implications for your eventual application. Our advisors will help you sort through it all.

Extracurricular Activities

ambulance

How will you separate yourself from others? Many of your fellow applicants will have perfect SAT scores and great GPAs, so you need extracurricular activities to make your application stand out. We will help you pick the right ones for your future.

Clinical Volunteering

You will need to show direct medical programs that you understand what being a physician is about in today’s world. You will need to partake in clinical volunteering and other clinical activities to show your interest and dedication. We will help you find these opportunities and help you understand how these will impact you.

School Selection

Confused about where to apply? We perform a detailed analysis of your statistics, state residency, location and career preferences and help you chose the best schools to apply to using our proprietary tools and algorithms. It is important to realize BS/MD programs are not for everyone. Your advisor will help you figure out if these programs are right for you and discuses the pros and cons of obtaining an MD degree via one of these programs.

Application Planning

Applying to BS/MD programs requires advanced planning. We will help you target the programs best for you. We will also help you navigate the process of submitting your application, gathering letters of recommendations and the various other steps in the process.

Summer Planning

If you plan on gaining admission to a BS/MD medical program, you cannot spend your summers like many of your peers. You will need to separate yourself by doing things like research, clinical programs and international volunteering. We will help you plan for these.

FAQs

Once you sign up for service, we ask you to fill out information sheet to help us assign you to the best possible advisor. The advisor will be an actual physician listed on our advisor page, who has experience working with hundreds of students through the application process. You can review all our advisors on the about us page and request one if there is anyone in particular you would like to work with.

Yes, absolutely. However, if we feel the advisor you requested is not the best person to handle your situation, we’ll let you know.

Sometimes, but because our advisors are across the country and the best advisor for your particular situation may not be in your location, we highly recommend that advising sessions be done virtually.

Yes, if they want, we encourage parents to be involved in these sessions.

Yes, absolutely. We can conduct the advising via phone or Skype/Facetime as needed!

Yes! We have direct medical (BS/MD) specific advisors who have gone through and sat on the admissions committees of 7 and 8 year medical programs to help you through your application process.

The earlier the better! We work with students as early as 8th grade. The advantages of early planning are obvious. With such competitive programs, it is essential that you are ahead of the game when it comes to understanding how to separate your application from the hundreds of others.

How many hours do I need?

Typically, one hour is enough for us to come up with a game plan for the next two to three months and answer a few focused questions. Applicants who choose this option typically are very early in the process and need to understand what BS/MD programs are and if they are right for them. We can cover essentially any aspect of the application process that you choose and these sessions are helpful in answering almost all questions.

Typically, two hours is a good starting point for your initial game planning. This is a perfect option if you are very early in your high school career and need focused advising on what direct medical programs will be looking for and how you can change your current path to best tailor your future application. Remember that what you do early in your high school career will have a big impact on your future application.

Our most popular game plan session, three hours allows you and your advisor to come up with an initial game plan and revise it in the coming months after you have explored options. This can also get you started on the right programs for summer sessions and even help you through the applications of these programs (which are very important in your overall application). We can also help edit essays and applications to programs with this package.
