After graduating high school in 2009, Rahul attended a 7-year combined BS/MD degree program through The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. In college, he spent time tutoring classmates and occasionally returning to his high school to help students with the college admission process. He graduated from TCNJ Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Biology. While living in his hometown during medical school, he tutored and mentored high school students across several subjects, including SAT preparation, essay editing, interview practice, and all of their classes (science, mathematics, Spanish, English, history, etc.). During medical school, he held several leadership positions, including Student Council, the Vocal Chords (acapella group), and the Ultimate Frisbee club. He was also an active member of the CALM (Collaborative Approaches to Learning Medicine) group, which connected upperclassmen with underclassmen within Rutgers for mentorship and tutoring. After his first three years of medical school at Rutgers, he was accepted into the LIFT (Leadership in Innovation Fellowship Training) program at the University of California, Irvine, where he spent a year focusing on academic research in cutting-edge technology used in Urologic Surgery. During this year, he volunteered as an instructor for the UC Irvine Department of Urology High School Outreach program, where he taught high school students basic surgical skills to spark interest in surgery and discuss the path to becoming a doctor. He also continued to mentor high school students in New Jersey via video chat. He is an accomplished medical writer, having authored several peer-reviewed manuscripts in both Otolaryngology (ENT) and Urologic Surgery. Rahul is starting residency in Urologic Surgery at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.
