Joel graduated with Honors from the University of California, Irvine with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. As an undergraduate he studied neuronal connections in the rat brain, tutored core biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology courses, and was involved with numerous student groups and pre-health activities. After graduating Joel spent a year working as an emergency medical technician aboard an ambulance in Los Angeles and Orange County prior to matriculating to the University of California, San Francisco.
During medical school Joel has been an interviewer for the school’s admissions committee, held numerous leadership roles, and has taught medical students in numerous settings. He is currently spending a year conducting full time research with the UCSF Division of Vascular Surgery and plans on applying directly into vascular surgery in 2018.
Joel has over 10 years of teaching experience. He has taught and tutored multiple science subjects throughout undergraduate and medical school. He strongly believes that with hard work, good direction, and resilience every medical student has the opportunity to succeed and pursue their dreams.
