Dr. Desai graduated from FIU in 1991 with a BS in Biology, subsequently attending Albany Medical College, graduating in 1996. This was followed by a residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Florida in Jacksonville, Florida, completing training in 2000. He subsequently went to work as a community Emergency Physician but heard the call of academics pulling at him, where he became the Assistant Program Director at the Texas A&M/Christus Spohn Emergency Medicine residency program. He became heavily involved with curriculum design for both residents and medical students. Upon moving to Florida, he was the Associate Program Director and later the Program Director for the University of Florida where he mentored scores of residents, medical students, and prospective medical students in their career goals, and served on the interview committee for the College of Medicine for 3 years. He later became the founding program director for the University of Central Florida/Ocala Regional Medical Center Emergency Medicine residency Program but kept an active interest in the medical school admissions process serving on the interview committee for the past 4 years.
