Bio

Murphy was born in Texas, but was raised in rural Iowa. He attended Iowa Western Community College where he obtained his associate’s degree in general studies. He continued his education at the University of Missouri-Columbia where he completed his RN-BSN degree in nursing. Half way through nursing school his mother passed away unexpectedly. This was a life changing event that caused him to pause and consider what he truly wanted out of life. Due to his love of learning and desire to provide the best care possible for his patients he decided to pursue a medical degree.

He was very fortunate to be able to stay at his alma mater for medical school. During his time at the University of Missouri School of Medicine his decision to seek medical training was reaffirmed. He found great joy in learning the intricacies of medicine and excelled academically. He received a 264 on Step 1, 266 on Step 2 CK, & scored in the 90th percentile on all of his NBME shelf exams. He also received honors in nearly all of his clinical rotations and was accepted into Alpha Omega Alpha as an MS4. During that same year he had the good fortune to become a tutor to junior medical students. He found this experience very enjoyable and fulfilling.

He was awarded outstanding tutor of his class because of his passion for helping future physicians build a solid foundation to score well on their board examinations and more importantly better serve their future patients. He enjoys and teaches a broad range of medical subjects which are commonly tested material on board exams.  He believes the keys to board exam success are hard work, repetition, and a healthy dose of good strategy.

He is currently a Dermatology resident at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and is interested in returning to rural Missouri once finished with residency. When he returns home he hopes to balance patient care with an assistant professorship with the University of Missouri School of Medicine. In his free time he enjoys going to the movies, road trips, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
