Vikram was born in New York City and grew up in Champaign, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Chicago as a University and Dean’s Scholar with a B.S. in biological sciences. In college, he served as a health educator for high school students for the Chicago Public School system and as a volunteer in the adult inpatient unit at the University of Chicago Medical Center. His primary extracurricular activity was basic science research, culminating in an honor’s thesis exploring the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying genetic epilepsies. After graduation, he continued his basic science research for two more years, resulting in publications in peer-reviewed journals, including Cell Genomics and Nature Communications.
Throughout college and his gap years, Vikram gained extensive tutoring experience across a wide array of subjects ranging from undergraduate-level science courses to board exams, including the SAT, ACT, and MCAT. Additionally, through his work with two education-focused non-profit organizations (The Education Project and General Intelligences), he developed skills in resource development and distribution.
Vikram is an MSTP student at the University of Michigan where he is pursuing an MD with the medical school and a PhD in the department of pharmacology. He also serves as a member of the Student Diversity Council, an admissions ambassador for the MD and MSTP programs, and an advisor/tutor to undergraduate students interested in a career in medicine and/or basic science. He passed Step 1, scored a 260 on Step 2 CK, and received honors in all his clinical rotations.
Currently, Vikram is in the first year of his PhD studying stem cell-based therapeutics for neurological disease. He is interested in the basic science topics of neuroscience and pharmacology, and holds clinical interests in internal medicine, psychiatry, and neurology. In his free time, he enjoys watching soccer, playing pickleball, and indoor gardening.
