Bio

Sagar was born and raised in San Jose, California. He studied Biology at UCLA as an undergraduate, where he graduated with summa cum laude honors in 2012. In addition to earning leadership positions in various student organizations at UCLA, Sagar worked as a peer tutor for a variety of life science courses.

After graduating from UCLA, Sagar continued cultivating his passion for teaching by becoming a high school Physics teacher in Chicago through Teach For America. Here, Sagar honed his leadership and teaching skills through curriculum development, lesson planning, and direct teaching. Prior to matriculating at University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, Sagar spent one year as a high school ACT/SAT and math/science tutor at an organization known as C2 Education.

At UCSF, Sagar scored a 250 on Step 1, a 252 on Step 2 CK, and received honors in nearly all of his third year clinical rotations. Between his third and fourth year of medical school, Sagar earned his Master’s degree in Public Health from Harvard University. During his fourth year, he additionally decided to complete his Master’s degree in Education (something he’d almost completed during his time as a high school teacher!). Sagar is passionate about the art of teaching, and believes that a strong work ethic paired with a “growth mindset” can allow any student to realize their dreams.

He is currently a 4th year medical student at UCSF, and is looking forward to beginning residency as an emergency medicine physician in the summer of 2020. In his career, he plans to remain heavily involved in medical education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In his free time, Sagar enjoys playing basketball, immersing himself in nature, traveling to new places on a budget, and seeking out new music.
