About COMLEX-USA Level 1
- Most students take the COMLEX-USA Level 1 after completion of their second year of medical school.
- The exam consists of 400 questions administered in one day and consists of two, four-hour exam sessions separated by a 40-minute break.
- It is a problem-based and symptom-based test focused on basic medical science material in the following subjects: anatomy, behavioral science, microbiology, biochemistry, osteopathic principles (OMM), physiology, pathology, and pharmacology.
About COMLEX-USA Level 2-CE
- The COMLEX-USA Level 2-CE is a day-long computerized exam that measures your clinical skills and problem-solving techniques.
- Level 2-CE is split into a four-hour session in the morning and a four-hour session in the afternoon.
- On testing day, you will be asked a series of 400 multiple choice questions testing your ability to make problem- and symptom-based assessments. You will be tested in the following clinical areas: emergency medicine, family medicine, health promotion and disease prevention, internal medicine, neuromusculoskeletal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, osteopathic principles, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery.
About COMLEX-USA Level 3
- The COMLEX-USA Level 3 is a two-day computerized exam that assesses the ability of osteopathic physicians to independently manage patient care.
- It evaluates competency in clinical decision-making, patient management, and the application of osteopathic principles in real-world medical scenarios.
- Day 1 consists of 352 multiple-choice questions covering foundational clinical concepts and patient cases.
- Day 2 includes 180 multiple-choice questions and 26 clinical decision-making (CDM) cases, where candidates analyze patient scenarios and choose appropriate diagnostic and treatment steps.
- The exam covers a broad range of clinical areas, including internal medicine, family medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and public health.

The Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) is the osteopathic equivalent to the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), which allopathic students take. Osteopathic students are in a unique position when it comes time to take your board exams. While they must complete the COMLEX-USA Levels 1, 2, and 3 to receive licensure as a DO, osteopathic students also have the opportunity to take the USMLE as well.
Since every student is different and begins tutoring at varying starting points, predicting score increases is challenging. However, all of our students see significant improvement after tutoring.
