Daniel Henick was born and raised in Bergen County, New Jersey. He graduated with honors from Yale University with a degree in psychology and concentration in neuroscience. During his time at Yale, he participated in peer-tutoring and mentorship programs, as well as clinical psychology research. He received multiple commendations for excellence in tutoring and research. After graduating, he worked as a medical assistant in a dermatology practice in Massachusetts prior to matriculating at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
In medical school, he has continued to teach, mentor, and advise both undergraduate and medical students. He received a 255 on Step 1 and 274 on Step 2 CK, and he scored in the 90th percentiles on nearly all his shelf exams. He also received honors in all his core clinical rotations. He is passionate about teaching and understands that the key to being a good teacher is meeting students at their level of understanding and explaining concepts in a down to earth fashion. He strongly believes that a combination of work ethic, guidance, and resilience, every medical student can grow and succeed throughout medical school and beyond. As of September 2021, he is interested in academic ophthalmology and plans to continue being involved in medical education. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, playing music, spending quality time with his family, and hanging out with his cat.
