Jacob is an MD-PhD student at the Texas A&M School of Medicine. He was born and raised in Round Rock, Texas, a suburb just north of Austin. He graduated summa cum laude from Texas A&M University, where he majored in biology and minored in neuroscience. During his time as an undergraduate at Texas A&M, Jacob was a member of the biology honors program, served as a peer mentor, and became involved in neuroscience research. He was included in multiple publications in this field, and also received several awards for excellence in academic performance and research. As a junior in college, Jacob joined MedSchoolCoach as an MCAT tutor, where he has since spent hundreds of hours helping pre-med students surpass their target scores on the MCAT exam. While helping students find success in their passions, he discovered his true passion for cardiovascular disease research, which he continued full-time until matriculating into the MD-PhD program at the Texas A&M School of Medicine.
In medical school, Jacob has continued to tutor with MedSchoolCoach and has driven his independent research project forward. During the pre-clerkship phase of his medical education, he has given many poster presentations and several oral presentations about his research. He has also attended multiple international conferences and received a first-place research award. Additionally, Jacob has served as the president of Texas A&M’s Cardiology Interest Group and has completed a semester-long clinical preceptorship in a local advanced heart failure clinic. Jacob has excelled in his pre-clerkship curriculum, passed USMLE STEP 1, and since transitioned into the PhD phase of his training, where he is now studying novel molecular mechanisms underlying cardiac remodeling and fibrosis after myocardial infarction (MI).
Collectively, Jacob has been teaching a wide variety of STEM subjects for close to 10 years and has experience tutoring for several standardized exams including the ACT, SAT, and MCAT. He is passionate about passing his knowledge onto his students and helping them build the confidence, test-taking experience, and critical thinking skills required to accomplish their goals. He believes that with proper short- and long-term goal setting, detailed planning, and dedication, every medical student can succeed on their board exams and excel in their career as a physician.
After graduating from medical school, Jacob aims to become a physician-scientist, caring for cardiovascular disease patients in the hospital while also running his own research lab designed to study novel mechanisms underlying his patient’s diseases. In his free time, he enjoys skateboarding, running with his doberman named Moose, and spending time with friends and family.
