How Much Does Applying to Medical School Cost?

Applying to medical school costs most students $2,000-$3,000, including expenses related to interview travel.

Application fees for the various application systems differ slightly:

  • The AMCAS processing fee for the primary application is $175, which includes one medical school designation. Each additional school designation is $45. If you apply to 20 schools, the primary application alone costs $1,030.
  • AACOMAS charges an application fee of $198 for your first program and $55 for each subsequent program. Applying to 20 DO schools would cost $1,243.
  • The application fee to use TMDSAS is $220, and there are no charges for applying to more than one program. (Keep in mind, though, that most students applying to TX schools also apply to MD and/or DO programs using one of the other application systems.

Each school then has a secondary application fee, which ranges from $25 to $100.

If you get an interview, you must pay for each flight and the overnight accommodations. Here is a valuable cost-calculating resource from AAMC (you need to sign in using your AAMC account).
