About the Scholarship

The MedSchoolCoach #PreMed Scholarship was created to acknowledge bright and deserving students who can benefit from medical school tutoring and advising, but for whom cost is prohibitive.

Students we select will be ambitious and capable of gaining an acceptance to med school. We want the students we select to ultimately succeed on their journey to become a physician. We know they do not have the resources or support structures in place to actualize their goal today. That’s where this scholarship can help.

We believe financial barriers to a medical education for students from lower socio-economic backgrounds should be overcome. This scholarship is closed for the 2020-21 admissions cycle. Check back late-Summer 2021 for information about 2021-22 scholarships.

Scholarship Eligibility

Students who meet the following criteria are highly encouraged to apply:

  • U.S.-based juniors, seniors or recent college graduates.
  • GPA of 3.5 or above in a rigorous course load.
  • Demonstrated extracurricular interests and leadership or significant family responsibilities.
  • A strong desire to give back to the community.
  • Underrepresented minority students are highly encouraged to apply.

Application Requirements

  • One 250-300 Word Written Essay – Describe what you believe is currently the biggest healthcare issue facing underrepresented communities.
  • Transcript and Resume – So we can see how remarkable a candidate you are!
  • Two References – Both will be asked to fill out an evaluation form on your behalf via email.

Scholarship Details

A total of 1 Gold Scholarship and 3 Silver Scholarship winners was awarded in December 2020.

All application materials, including your references’ evaluation, must be received by 10 PM EST on Sunday, December 1st, 2020. Winners will be selected in December 2020. Selected students may begin working with MedSchoolCoach as early as January of 2021.

The application is made up of a few questions, an essay, and a short video. For the essay, responses should be no longer than 300 words. For the video, responses should be 5 minutes or less. With thoughtful consideration to the written and video prompts, we estimate only 1 hour is needed to complete the scholarship application.

We’ve made the application as simple as possible, but we want to get to know you! The application will consist of:

  • One 250-300 word written essay responding to the following prompt:

Describe what you believe is currently the biggest healthcare issue facing underrepresented communities.

  • Your transcript. A screen shot from your school’s website will suffice.
  • Your resume/CV.
  • Two references who will be emailed a brief evaluation form to complete on your behalf. If your references have already written a Letter of Recommendation for you in the past, they can just attach that instead.

We want applicants who have the potential to give back to their community, to pay forward what they receive and to make an impact in other people’s lives. Many candidates from different backgrounds are good candidates for our scholarship. Our goal is to support students that would otherwise not be able to use our services without this scholarship.

We do not discriminate in the awarding of this scholarship on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, ancestry, age, religion or religious creed, disability or handicap, sex or gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic.

No. MedSchoolCoach created this scholarship so that students who do not have access to high quality mentorship and exam preparation can receive it. Medical school scholarships are often available with cash value, however if a student does not achieve an acceptance to medical school, those scholarships are worthless. The MedSchoolCoach #PreMed Scholarship is an attempt to help those who otherwise would not have been able to achieve an acceptance to medical school.

You may find the official rules, and the terms & conditions for the #PreMed Scholarship here.
