Bio

Joe is a third year student (G1) in the USC-Caltech MD-PhD program. In addition to working toward his medical degree, he is pursuing his PhD from Caltech in machine learning applied to medical imaging.

Previously, Joe graduated summa cum laude from UCLA in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in molecular, cell and developmental biology and a minor in biomedical research. He received the highest departmental honors for his cytoskeleton biochemistry research.

Joe has always enjoyed tutoring and teaching, starting from when he began a private chemistry tutoring business in high school, and continuing when he served as a general and organic chemistry undergraduate TA at UCLA. He also has a passion for the English language, which he applied in founding the Medical Literature Society at UCLA, a medical blog with over 60 published articles. As a medical student, he likes synthesizing MCAT material with applications for medical school. He enjoyed learning the material and strategy for the MCAT, and now wants to share his tips with others to help them maximize their score!

Initially, Joe was a political science major when he started at UCLA. However, after realizing that he couldn't live without science in his life, he changed his major to molecular biology and added a minor in biomedical research.
