Bio

Dr. Allen is a board-certified OBGYN and Adjunct Assistant Professor with experience in the medical school and residency application process, a special interest in international health, and a speaker and consultant in women’s health issues. She completed her undergraduate degree at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada and went on to earn a Master’s of Health Science Degree in Community Health and Epidemiology at University of Toronto. Before attending medical school, Dr. Allen worked as a Health Analyst/Epidemiologist at a local health department in Brampton, Canada.

She then attended Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine where she earned her medical degree. After completing her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Allen became a faculty member at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA for 4 years. Since 2012, Dr. Allen has been practicing as an OBGYN Hospitalist in Atlanta and still maintains a faculty appointment at Morehouse School of Medicine as an Adjunct Assistant Professor.

Dr. Allen has been involved in all aspects of the medical student and residency application process since her own matriculation into medical school. She has experience evaluating applicant personal statements, interviewing prospective medical students and residents, and playing an essential role in the yearly class selection process. Her broad application process experience, including her own personal experience, allows her to specialize in all aspects of applying to both medical school and residency positions as a non-traditional student.

In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Allen has a special interest in international health and has completed medical missions in Jamaica and Honduras. She is also developing her skills and laying the foundation as a modern Thought Leader, Speaker, Author, and Consultant in Women’s Health Issues both domestically and internationally. She is currently a Radio Host for ReachMD, a medical broadcasting network that provides education and training to medical professionals through online podcasts and satellite radio broadcasts. Dr. Allen has extensive interview experience in local and national print and broadcast media including CNNEspanol, ReachMD, Girl’s Life Magazine, Fit Pregnancy Magazine, Bustle, Good HouseKeeping Magazine, BlackDoctor.org, Motherhood Moment Blog, Healthline.com and Business Women Magazine.

FUN FACT

Dr. Allen went to the a School of the Arts for highschool and majored in Dance Arts and still has an avid interest in all things dance, although she is able to quench that desire by attending ballet and other dance performances. She is an amateur vocalist and takes vocalist lessons on the side. Dr. Allen is a food enthusiast, and frequently practices gourmet cooking with the help of her significant other Omar, who is a classically trained French Chef!
