Bio
Priyanka was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Rice University with a major in Psychology and minors in Biochemistry & Cell Biology and Business. She was chosen to join the first class of the Rice-UT Public Health Scholars Program, through which she completed an MPH in Epidemiology and Global Health from the University of Texas School of Public Health. While completing her MPH, Priyanka conducted research on prevention of perinatal HIV transmission and helped develop a prenatal care program for HIV+ women in Malawi. In 2017, Priyanka began medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, where she has continued to explore her passion for global women’s health. As a member of the Global Health Distinction program, Priyanka spent 2 months in Botswana conducting cervical cancer research and caring for patients at Princess Marina Hospital. She also spent 3 months in Washington, DC as an Archer Graduate Fellow in Public Policy. She received a 255 on Step 1 and a 271 on Step 2 CK and is ranked in the top quartile of her medical school class. Priyanka plans to pursue a residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology and, eventually, a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She is passionate about teaching and is excited to pursue a career in academic medicine. In her free time, she enjoys singing, playing piano, practicing yoga, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
